TIPS FOR RECONFIGURING A CLOSET

TIPS FOR RECONFIGURING A CLOSET

Now we have restructured all three cabinets in our family bedrooms – ourselves and our two daughters. It is one of the BEST DIY projects that almost anyone with basic woodworking skills can do. I know there are too many fancy wardrobe systems out there and if I had a walk-in closet I would do one of them. But for our standard size cabinets, I found it easier to make the DIY way by moving things and adding shelves. Because of our storage needs, each had to be slightly different.

I’ll start off with Marigold’s since it’s the newest!

As for Marigold’s locker, I decided to hold the long locker bar. Rust-Oleum Clean Metal Primer was painted gold in Rose Gold using Metallic Stop Rust and Crystal Clear Enamel coating. We had the wallpaper on the wall, we used it here too. Here you can see that the top shelves are the same, but we’ve added more shelves to the base. This is a super easy way to update a kids locker. There is always a lot of wasted space.

We used Target’s cheapest white dresser and added shelves to the edges to give it a built-in look. We also added old hardware that I purchased from eBay.

I have more drawers in a children’s closet I’m a BIG fan. Although both of our daughters have dressers, there are a lot of little things to organize – especially when they’re still in diapers. These drawers are very helpful!

See how more special and useful this cabinet is! And for some reason, if the next owner of this house does not want these bottom shelves, they are easy enough to remove.TIPS TO RE-MAKE A CLOSET,

Next is Nova’s locker. It has a slightly more detailed design. It is also a larger closet, so it makes a difference. I wanted a lot of small shelves that are useful for sunglasses. They can also be used for shoes. The only thing I like more about Nova’s design is the bottom garment rack, because I put all her coats and sweaters there. Keeps it tidy.

Again, these are custom built. I know that some people think we should publish a DIY, but this won’t help unless they have exactly the same closet and the same storage needs. Anyone who can build a shelf can make such an installation. I recommend buying the drawers, it saves a lot of time!

I have a great double locker for my locker (Jeremy also has his own house, we have three little locker in this house). Before doing anything, there were two small bars (for tops and skirts / jeans, I think), and a very high (for the bar) one high bar. Most of my clothes and overalls were dragged to the ground.

I thought long and hard about my priorities and how best to keep what I had. I decided to make a shoe cabinet from floor to ceiling in the small closet. It holds all my shoes and is the perfect place for me! Initially I had to cut my collection to fit them all, but I still had to do this.

In the large closet, we made half for long dresses and overalls (and now it’s higher, so nothing touches the floor) and half made for tops, skirts and pants. This is not a big closet, but it is absolutely perfect for the amount of clothes I want to have. I do not see myself as minimalistic, but I find it too much value in keeping a tightly arranged cabinet that I am excited just to wear and that fits and straightens my body.
