Simple Front Door Decorating Ideas

A better place to add some seasonal decor at the front door. When I was asked to join a group of artisans, bloggers and uber-creative ladies to share a DIY wreath post, I was not only excited but challenged. I knew that all my friends would bring A-games to this challenge, so I decided to think outside the box and instead of making a wreath, I made a fresh flower, basket hanging on the front door that could be rediscovered every season. Scroll down to see how I made this simple hanging flower arrangement and then check out the simple front door decorating ideas shared by my friends. There is a lot of inspiration here, I know you will love them!

While I intended to put this hanging flower basket over my front door, as I was getting ready to photograph it, it looked perfectly beautiful at the Dutch door in my kitchen, so I went with the flow and decided to keep it there!

This was an incredibly simple arrangement when I ran a few of the logistics.

How should I work to put water in the basket without making it too heavy to hang first. My solution was to add some floral foam and crumpled paper to the bottom of the basket, and then add a waterproof plastic bag to the top half and fill it with water.

After studying logistics, I bought some flowers and greens to add to the basket from the local market. I started with the eucalyptus placed in the basket, I made sure that the stems were in the water to keep them fresh.

When I replaced the greenery, I added large white hydrangeas and a few dusty mills gathered from our garden.

From there, I put the pink and white tulips in place, letting them spill wildly on the edges and find their natural place in the arrangement.

After the tulips were placed, I noticed that something was missing, but I had no more flowers, so I reached for my dear fake peonies to fill in the blanks. Although I don’t often mix fresh and fake flowers, I think realistic fake flowers can be a great addition to the flower arrangement while on a pinch!

I couldn’t decide whether the basket was hanging on the door knocker or the top window of the dutch door, so I photographed it both ways and thought I would let you decide.

The truth is, this pretty basket of flowers looked great wherever I put it.

Finally, I put it on the front porch, it took more than a week due to the mild temperatures we had. This is also super simple and made for months with fake flowers!
